Spring Share #3

Another happy-and BUSY! week in the gardens. The best news-all 500 pounds of the seed potatoes went in on a perfect morning. A huge relief to have that job behind us. Peppers and eggplant planted and we seeded in more lettuces and leafy greens in the hoop houses. The chilly wet Spring delayed outdoor planting but all is chugging along just on a slightly later schedule. All the cabbages and early broccoli in the field are sizing up. Hopefully next week all the tomatoes go in now that we are past the date of that terrible hard frost of last year-May 24th. We had some much needed rain, made for some heavy boots when transplanting.

As always-fashion forward!

What is in your share-pink spinach, 2 varieties of head lettuce, turnips, pac choi, 1st kohlrabi harvest!

Head lettuces-A great harvest from hoop 1 this week.

Pac choi-Last of this juicy delight from hoop 2. Again-charred on the grill is amazing! Also love it fresh in our salads too.

Turnips-We had a great harvest of these little wonders. We cannot get enough of them in our fresh salads.

SPRING SHARE #2

A HAPPY!!! hello from the other side. All is well and we had a productive time in the gardens. All the cabbages, broccoli, and brussels sprouts went in….we planted long rows of carrots in the hoop houses. Seeded in bean seeds and lots of leafy greens direct seeded into hoop 1. Over 7000 onions were planted in two days and happy that job is behind us. Scott got all the irrigation set and the trellises are going up for the peas, and cucumbers and tomatoes. That heat was sure a surprise but the tomato and pepper plants sure loved it after the cold dark Spring. Life is good and we are rolling along.

Head lettuces-2 varieties this week. Butter heads that are just delicious and a treat as they only grow well in the cool temperatures of Spring and a crunchy summer crisp called Tropicana.

And here we go! We are so excited for this season to begin. A long, dark, cold Spring has held on here delaying outside planting but we kept busy in the hoop houses. Scott added another emergency extension to our heated greenhouse to protect all the little seedling that usually are out in the garden by now. Hoop houses look fantastic and the crops strong. We covered every night during the chill to ensure a blanket of warmth and then uncovered every morning. Hopefully, this duty is behind us until Fall.

We hope to get in the outside gardens next week for a transplanting marathon and look forward to the 1st turnip harvest of the season.

Nothing tastes better to us then the 1st fresh greens of Spring…..we filled your totes with delicious treats!
