Snowdrops. A beautiful beacon of Spring.

A wonderful day of duties….we flamed off the ornamental grasses, the dried cattail islands and border around the pond.  All nice and tidy.

brning off all the dried grass around the pond.

Scott finished splitting the wood from the trees he took down a few weeks back and I weeded through the hoop house and marveled at the spinach and how well things are germinating…..the season is really off to a good start!

We had the best time yesterday in the hoop house!  Scott spent the previous 3 days prepping soil, watering and marking beds so we could hit it hard and seed in the early Spring crops.  Done and FUN!

Having a blast seeding in beets!

Having a blast seeding in beets!

We spent the afternoon in the warm sunshine planting 2 types of beets, 2 types of radishes, 3 different green mixes that are sure to be delicious and interesting, and a leafy salad lettuce mix.  A few other “surprises” too for the Spring Share as tasty treats.

Our daily duties now revolve around seed starting to keep our rotation on schedule….

Remember all those onions and shallots and leeks we started 2 Sundays ago???….well they are loving life in the greenhouse!  Strong and healthy.

We are also excited that the garden cleared of snow yesterday and we are hoping the frost leaves the ground today….I am going to start looking for our rhubarb crowns to appear.

It is hard to believe that I can honesty say we have started gardening this year when there is still snow on the ground……but inside the greenhouse and hoop house it is a completely different world.

It’s Springtime around here!  All the onions, leeks and shallots have been seeded in over the weekend.  1000’s of these tasty gems to look forward to this summer.  Scott is out in the garden now cleaning things up in the snow!  He cut down 2 trees to increase our sunlight in the garden, and the hoophouse is slowly coming back to life. On sunny days we can be in there comfortably wearing tee shirts!  Crazy but it really feels like Springtime has arrived.  The last of our seed orders came in the mail and we are organizing the planting schedule for the hoophouse.  Only about 9 weeks and the Spring Share begins…..
