Autumn has arrived….The shade cloth came off the hoop houses last weekend and tucked away for next season. Always a sure sign that days are shortening and cooler temperatures are here and time to roll the sides down on the houses at night too to retain some heat.

Our focus now is getting the last of the potatoes and sweet potatoes out of the ground and pick up the last of the squash and pumpkins from the field. Final lettuce rotations going in hoop 1 and a final spinach rotation going into hoop 2 this week for wintering over. Garlic area will be prepped for that favorite crop to go in the ground in the next few weeks. AND then clean up in the garden. The weather these days IS perfect. Our caps are on in the mornings….long johns too and by afternoon we are in tee shirts for a few hours. A beautiful time of year. A surprise to us how quickly the summer flew with only 2 CSA shares to go in this fabulous season.
CSA #16

Head Lettuce-Another beauty from hoop 1. This little gem is a mini head. Sweet juicy leaves.

Spinach-Even a better harvest than the 1st pick. We started another rotation and as mentioned will plant a 3rd this week. A favorite crop for us. Enjoy! Triple rinsed and ready to go..

Storage onions/shallots-We harvested these this summer and dried them down in the shed. A mix of onions and shallots.

Carrots-Last harvest out of hoop 2 of the season. Enough for another share and we will pack carrots in the last share of the season as well.

Squash-We are making evening trips to the patch and thrilled with the harvest this year. Full share choose 2 squash of your choice. Snack pack choose 1.

Ornamental Pumpkin-Full and Snack Pack choose a beauty! They are all lined up in the driveway.

Mini Sweet Peppers (snack only)-Sweet little guys perfect for snacking. Called “lunchbox” or “picnic” peppers. This is the end of our peppers for the season.

Beans!-(full share only)-last picking too of these summer delights.

Sweet potatoes-We finally started the harvest and it is a good harvest. Better than we have had in years. Some oddballs out there and the skin is russeted on most where we started. The flavor is delicious but just not “pretty” on the outside. We did a bit of research and it is from damp soil. We are 1/2 way down the rows so more to come.

Garlic-(full only) 1 head in every share.

BEST GUESS FOR NEXT WEEK-HEAD LETTUCE, SWEET POTATOES, POTATOES, SQUASH, KALE, SHALLOTS, ARUGULA AND MORE…
2 SHARES REMAIN IN THE SEASON.
