A huge week of harvest duties for us as many of the summer crops are in full swing production. Long hours crowling around with the beans and cucumbers and zucchini. The weather was pleasant and we are not complaining as the bounty was plentiful. A massive lettuce harvest this week as we over plant at this time of year expecting loss due to heat. Well, no loss as the temperatures have been cool and the harvest is perfect. Tasty and beautiful. Tomatoes are starting to finally kick in and we are anticipating a wonderful season. We are grateful as last year’s tomato harvest was unremarkable and a disappointment.
The pepper plants are coloring up. We planted a long, long row of little snackers and are excited to see these in the box soon.
Another long row of green beans went in this week for a late season harvest, lettuce starts were quickly replanted where the jumbo harvest came out and we weeded like maniacs whenever we had a moment. The week flew by and we ran out of time to visit the bees. Top priority for this coming week.
We are pleased to see little winter squash forming on the vines even though they seem a bit behind. Watermelon too is slow this year due to the cooler temeratures. It’s there but small….so we wait and water.
